What's new in ModusPractica Pro
Every update explained in plain language β€” what changed, why it changed, and what it means for your practice.
Version 1.2
June 2026
Includes versions 1.2.0 – 1.2.7
Update

Practice tools that stay in the room with you β€” reference audio per piece, a built-in metronome at your achieved tempo, and session notes that save reliably every time you finish.

Latest β€” version 1.2.7
πŸ› Calendar β€œmissed” count

The month calendar no longer marks days as partially missed because of old archived, deleted, or stats-only sections. Past days now judge only the sections that still belong in your schedule β€” matching what you see in the list view and in the day detail panel.

Version 1.2.6
πŸ› Scheduling after incomplete sessions

A training session saved as Incomplete or Partial progress with no registered counters no longer extends your next practice date as if you had played perfectly. Streak resets now count toward scheduling the same way they already did for FrustrationGuard.

Version 1.2.5
πŸ’‘ How to Practice page

A new page in the top navigation collects practical piano practice tips drawn from publicly available research and teaching literature. Every article cites its sources in a References section at the bottom of the page.

🏷 Version in the navigation bar

Every page now shows the current app version (for example v1.2.5) in the top bar, next to today's practice time. Click it to open the release notes. About and Settings stay in sync automatically.

🎡 Metronome time signatures

The practice-session metronome is no longer fixed to 4/4. Pick 2/4, 3/4, 4/4, 5/4, 6/8, 7/8, 9/8, or 12/8 from the Time sig. menu β€” beat 1 stays accented each bar. Your choice is saved for the next session.

⏱ Session timer + optional countdown

Session Timer (left): stopwatch that registers practice time for statistics only. Countdown (right): optional dumb countdown β€” set minutes, get a signal at zero. The countdown does not log time and has no effect on scheduling.

πŸ“‹ Planning in the session summary

The in-session Live Planning Preview panel has been removed to keep the practice view focused. After you save a training session, the completion modal shows stability, comfort, and your next practice date instead.

⌨ Editable metronome BPM

Click the metronome BPM number and type a tempo directly (30–300), or use the arrow keys. The achieved tempo field stays in sync. + and βˆ’ still work as before.

🎯 Cleaner practice session layout

The Analysis button sits with the session timer again; session notes have more room in the right column.

Version 1.2.4
πŸ“… Schedule colours: orange for today & tomorrow

On the Schedule page, sessions due today or tomorrow appear in orange (list and month views). From two days ahead they show in green β€” on track, not urgent yet.

⏱ Today's practice time in the menu bar

The top navigation bar now shows how long you have practiced today β€” training, analysis, and free practice combined. During an active session the counter includes your current timer.

πŸ“Š Purple time-tracking pieces

Pieces set to Time tracking only (sight reading, warm-ups, technical exercises) now appear in purple in your repertoire list. After you practice them today, they turn green β€” the same β€œdone for today” cue as scheduled pieces whose next session is still in the future.

Version 1.2.3
🎯 Default target reps raised to 5

New sections and acquisition-stage practice now aim for 5 correct repetitions per session (previously 3). Stability-based suggestions were adjusted accordingly. Existing sections still at 3 are migrated automatically on first load.

πŸ” Clearer Analysis guide

The manual now explains step by step how to use Analysis on a section β€” what is hidden, what is logged, good uses (including short blocks on tiny fragments), and how it differs from Free Practice and training.

β–Ά Start Training Now β€” optional reminder

After an analysis session, the cold-start reminder when switching to training can be skipped permanently with Don't show again.

Version 1.2.2
↔ Resizable repertoire panel

Drag the vertical handle between your piece list and the main panel to set a comfortable width. Your choice is remembered for next time. Double-click the handle to restore the default width.

πŸ‘† Tap tempo

Set the metronome BPM by tapping your own pulse β€” press Tap under the metronome or use Spacebar (when you are not typing in a field). Tap at least twice in steady rhythm; the display updates from your average interval. Keep tapping to refine the value. Available only while the metronome is stopped; achieved tempo stays in sync.

πŸ” Analysis mode: counters hidden

When you start an Analysis session on a section, the Practice Metrics panel is hidden β€” correct/failed counters, overlearning, and Gebrian options. Only the timer, tempo, notes, and energy fields stay visible. This matches how standalone Free Practice works and avoids confusion about which metrics count toward scheduling.

🎡 Practice metronome

A built-in metronome in the practice session Tempo panel β€” click along at your achieved tempo while you work on a section. Press Start to hear steady beats (accent on beat 1); use + and βˆ’ to adjust BPM between 30 and 300. When you open a session, the metronome is preset to your current achieved tempo and stays in sync with the tempo field. Timing uses the Web Audio API for stable rhythm.

πŸ“ Session notes that save

Session notes are now stored reliably when you complete a practice session β€” including on mobile. One unified Session Notes field per section holds your full note history in a single window, sorted newest first. Each entry keeps its [YYYY-MM-DD HH:MM] timestamp; type your observation right after the top line. The separate Previous Session Notes panel has been removed.

Version 1.2.0
🎧 Reference MP3 per piece

Attach a local MP3 from your hard drive as reference audio for any piece β€” for example a recording, backing track, or study version. Click the 🎧 button in the piece detail view to choose a file; the button turns blue when audio is saved. An inline player lets you listen while you work on the piece. Replace or remove the file anytime from the same menu. MP3s are stored locally in your browser and are included in data backups. External web links and YouTube URLs remain on the separate link button.

Version 1.1
June 2026
Includes versions 1.1.0 – 1.1.9

A series of improvements across the entire app β€” more control over your repertoire, a clearer view of your practice calendar, time tracking for sight reading and warm-ups, and a more robust and secure foundation under the hood.

Version 1.1.9
πŸ”— Links on pieces

Attach a URL to any piece β€” IMSLP, YouTube, or any other web link. The address is never shown as text; a link icon in your repertoire list and piece detail opens it in a new tab. Add a link to an existing piece anytime, or replace it when you find a better source. The icon turns blue when a link is set, grey when none is saved.

Versions 1.1.5 – 1.1.8
πŸ” Analysis limited to the initial phase

The Analysis button on a section practice page is now available only during the Exploration phase (initialDaysDone < 3). Once a section enters Consolidation, the training counter is the correct way to register attempts β€” this protects your scheduling data from hidden rehearsal during analysis. The standalone 🎹 Free Practice button in the navigation bar is unchanged. Switching from analysis to training on the same day shows a short reminder about cold-start accuracy.

πŸ“Š Clearer Practice Time chart

The Statistics bar chart now shows three stacked segments per day: training (blue), analysis (orange), and Free Practice (green). Hover a bar to see the day total first, then the breakdown β€” Free Practice is listed only when you logged time that day. Totals no longer look inconsistent when Free Practice was part of the session.

Versions 1.1.5 – 1.1.7
πŸ“… Schedule month view

The Schedule page now has a Month tab alongside the existing list view. A calendar grid shows which days you practised (green, intensity by duration) and which sections are due today or ahead. Click any day for session detail and due sections. Overdue items are grouped on today.

πŸ“Š Time tracking only

Some practice does not belong in your spaced repetition schedule β€” sight reading, warm-ups, exploring new material. Enable Time tracking only on a piece in the piece detail view. Sessions log practice time for Statistics but skip the training counter and FSRS planning. Ideal for sight-reading books or daily warm-up routines.

🎹 Smarter repertoire dates

Pieces marked for time tracking only now show the correct last-practiced date in your repertoire list, based on session history rather than the scheduling fields used for structured training.

Earlier in version 1.1
πŸ—‘οΈ Direct delete for sections

You can now permanently delete a section directly from the piece detail view β€” no need to archive it first and hunt for it in the archive. Both active and archived sections get a delete button right where you see them. Practice history is always preserved in Statistics, regardless of whether a section is deleted.

🎹 Free Practice mode

A new Free Practice button appears in the navigation bar on every page. It opens a practice session without linking it to any section or piece β€” useful for improvisation, warm-ups, or exploring new material. Free Practice time appears separately in your Statistics so it never inflates your structured training numbers.

πŸ›‘οΈ Smarter FrustrationGuard

The FrustrationGuard now counts your total error burden β€” failed attempts and streak resets combined. In Strict Gebrian mode, each reset already adds repetitions to your target; the guard now catches that correctly. Warning at 5 total errors, hard stop at 8.

πŸ”¬ Expanded scientific foundation

A new Science page documents the research behind every algorithm and design decision in the app. Three additional peer-reviewed references added. The tempo-progression rationale now clearly distinguishes between what the research says and what the app implements as a design choice.

πŸ”’ Security and stability hardening

Backup import is now atomic β€” if anything goes wrong during a restore, your existing data rolls back automatically. User-entered text is sanitised before display. The scheduling engine now recovers gracefully from corrupt or missing values instead of writing invalid dates.

Version 1.0.0
June 6, 2026
First public release

ModusPractica Pro is officially here. This is the first public release β€” a complete practice planner built from the ground up on real motor learning science. Everything has been designed around one question: what does your brain actually need to turn repeated practice into lasting skill?

🧠 Spaced repetition scheduling

The app calculates when each section of your repertoire needs your attention β€” not too soon, not too late. Based on an algorithm inspired by the FSRS memory model (Ye et al., 2022) β€” the same DSR principles used in the best language learning tools, adapted for motor skills.

🎡 Automatic tempo progression

When you consistently nail a section, the app nudges your practice tempo upward. Small, proportional steps β€” because research shows sudden large jumps in tempo undo consolidation.

πŸ›‘οΈ FrustrationGuard

When a session goes wrong and frustration builds, the app stops you β€” not because you failed, but because continued practice after repeated errors is rarely productive. A fresh attempt after sleep is often more effective.

⚑ Entry Cost

How many errors before your first correct repetition? When that number drops across sessions, it is a useful indicator that the passage is becoming easier to retrieve β€” an app-defined proxy, not a clinical measure of consolidation.

πŸ€– Groq AI analysis

Optional. Add your own Groq API key and the app generates a plain-language analysis of your practice patterns β€” what's progressing, what's stalling, and what to focus on next.

πŸ”’ Your data, your device

Everything stays in your browser. No account, no server, no cloud. Export a backup anytime and import it into any future version of the app β€” nothing is ever lost.
